Getting started, step by step

  1. Accept your coaching invitation

Your club owner will send you an invitation email. Click the link, create your account, and you'll immediately be connected to your assigned team.

    • Invitation email from your club
    • Secure single-use invitation link
    • Your team access is set up automatically
    • Free to use as a coach

Already have an account?: If you use FootyLineup for another club, the same login works — the new team is added to your existing account.

  2. Explore your team dashboard

Your team dashboard is your home base. From here you can access your squad, plan matches, run seasons, and see your team's performance.

    • Squad list with player profiles
    • Season overview and fixtures
    • Upcoming matches and availability status
    • Recent match results and reports

Quick tip: Pin your most-used features using browser bookmarks — the dashboard URL stays consistent.

  3. Set up your season and fixtures

Create a season for your team, then add your fixtures. This gives parents and players visibility of the full schedule from day one.

    • Season name, start date, and end date
    • Individual match details (opponent, venue, date, kick-off)
    • Upcoming fixtures visible to parents straight away
    • Results are recorded after each match

Plan ahead: Adding the full season fixture list upfront means parents can mark availability weeks in advance.

  4. Check availability before the match

Parents mark whether their child can attend each event. You can see real-time availability before you plan your lineup.

    • Live availability dashboard per match
    • Filter by confirmed, unavailable, or no response
    • Send availability reminders from the platform
    • See who you can rely on before committing to a lineup

No more chasing: Availability is tracked digitally — you never have to send a round of messages asking who's coming.

  5. Build your match lineup

Use the drag-and-drop lineup builder to plan your formation, assign positions, name your captain, and set your substitutes.

    • Drag and drop players onto any pitch position
    • Choose from dozens of formations
    • Designate captain and vice-captain
    • Plan substitutes and rolling subs if needed
    • Add tactical notes for the team

Reuse templates: Save a default lineup for your team that you can clone for each new match — saving you time every week.

  6. Run the live MatchCentre

During the match, use the MatchCentre to make real-time updates. Record goals, assists, substitutions, and cards as they happen.

    • Confirm the lineup as the match starts
    • Record goalscorers and assist makers
    • Make substitutions (tracking exact minute)
    • Issue yellow or red cards
    • Track cumulative player minutes automatically

Works on mobile: The MatchCentre is designed for pitchside use on your phone. You don't need a laptop or tablet.

  7. Complete the post-match report

After the final whistle, complete your post-match report. It captures the result, player ratings, and key moments — and is automatically shared with parents.

    • Final score and match result
    • Player ratings (1–10 per player)
    • Playing time and substitution summary
    • Match notes and highlights
    • Report visible to parents and players immediately

Build a record: Every completed report adds to your team's season history — a full record of every match, available any time.

Common questions

Can I manage more than one team?
Yes. If you're assigned to multiple teams (e.g. an U11 and U13), they all appear in your account. You switch between teams from the main navigation.
How does availability work?
Parents mark their child's availability in their own guardian account. You see all responses in one clear view on your match dashboard. You can also send reminders for parents who haven't responded.
Can I share the lineup before the match?
Yes. You can publish the lineup so parents and players can see it from their accounts. You can also generate a shareable image to post on socials or send to your team group.
What if I make a mistake in the MatchCentre?
Events can be edited or deleted during the match. After the match you can make corrections before publishing the final report.
Can parents see my tactical notes?
Tactical notes in the lineup builder are private unless you choose to share them. Player-facing notes (e.g. individual instructions) can be enabled separately.
How do I invite a guardian for a player?
From the player's profile page, there's an option to invite a parent or guardian. Enter their email and they'll receive an invitation automatically.
Can I export match data or reports?
Yes. Post-match reports can be exported as PDFs. Player stats can be exported as CSV for use in spreadsheets. You can also generate shareable lineup images.
